The Author - Anne Kinch

As a primary specialist, librarian, social adjustment, physical education and classroom teacher, Anne Kinch [Tessier] has taught every grade from junior kindergarten to grade eight. For a number of years she was a member of the Mathematics Curriculum and Environmental Studies Committees for the Victoria / Northumberland Durham Boards in Ontario. Anne was responsible for evaluating, writing and helping teachers implement new curriculum.

After joining the York Region District School Board, Anne received training as a Reading Recovery teacher and was part of the mentoring program with the board. It was her training in analyzing children's reading and writing that led her to analyzing how children performed tasks in mathematics. This, combined with years of listening to teacher's needs resulted in a five-year action research project that created an active new approach to helping children improve their ability to process information in both mathematics and literacy.
